Forbidden Sound

Logo & Packaging Design

A client brief set by starting up business Forbidden Sound. They asked me to create a logo to represent their aims as a fashion brand.

They wanted the brand to make people feel confident, comfortable, empower and encourage individuality.

The name of the brand came from the love of music and how it brings everyone together, I wanted to carry on this theme into the clothing brands logo.

Experiments

I started looking at sound waves and recording myself saying each brand value or aim.

I recorded myself saying each brand value or aim and chose 5 of these to be within the designs: Confidence, stylish, individuality, happiness, and I included Forbidden Sound as this is what brings all these values together.

I wanted to show individuality so it was fitting to have different/various colours, each line representing a different value and looking completely different to each other.

Packaging

Experiments

The next project set by them, they wanted a design for their delivery boxes which made their customers feel special. Experimenting with mark-making with paint, which is a good way to show expression and emotion.

Editing these to fit in with the aims and brand colours. Being able to create one for each brand colour added to the surprise element when customers opened their parcels, because each one would be different. This added to the user experience.

Making Process

Printing off these designs to see what amendments to make and gaining feedback from my peers to see what they liked and disliked.

Developing the designs to fit in with the brand colours, layering the design and changing the opacity so there was more depth to the design and less white space. Adding final details like the brand name and social media icons.

Prototyping

As I couldn’t print on cardboard and get a structural designer for this packaging layout, I improvised and chose GF Smith card to print on as it’s more durable than printing paper and shows how it would look to the client and audience.

I also changed the packaging design slightly and got rid of unnecessary packaging.
